BSSW is a subsidiary of Grand Traverse Economic Development and is currently seeking to fill an open position with a qualified individual. For more than 40 years, Bay Shore Steel Works has worked as a trusted partner, providing high-quality fabrication, machining and finishing services to a wide variety of customers in many industries. Including the most demanding customer in the world: the United States military.

Weld Engineer – CWI Certified-
Wages commensurate with experience

Responsibilities include:

  • Actively works with customers to understand and interpret weld requirements for new and existing programs.
  • Trains colleagues on latest customer weld requirements.
  • Reviews weld parameters internally and ensures compliance with Military Weld Requirements
  • Applies a basic understanding in the operation and maintenance of machines and tools utilized in the welding environment. Knows primary position/job well and understands customer/supplier relationships.
  • Measures work pieces to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Produces work that conforms to customer specifications and customer standards understanding the importance of doing it right the first time before passing it on. Refers to blueprints, technical drawings, and other written directions.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work station, maintains and wears all required personal protective safety equipment.
  • Works at different work stations as production needs require or shifts from one station to another.
  • Able to promptly produce quality work that satisfies customer requirements.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to fingers in handling, grasping, or feeling objects, tools, or controls for an extended period of time. The employee must be able to occasionally work above the shoulder height and frequently have neck flexion and extension. The employee must occasionally lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

Required Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ related experience or training in welding
  • Or equivalent combination of both
